Do you ever wonder what happens to all of the stuff you put out for recycling? Do we really know for sure? Are our governments taking care of our waste problem here or are they sending it to Third World countries?

Here's a report that talks of how in the UK, a great deal of the things that people put out in good faith to be recycled are being sent to China.

This fits in directly with what Annie Leonard tells us in the short film The Story of Stuff which takes us on the journey of the life of the many products that we consume every day. Its about 20 minutes long and has some thought-provoking information about what the actual real cost of those things that we buy is.

I'm also going to post the Story of Stuff blog link on my sidebar.

I refuse to watch this video on the basis that I will spiral into a deep depression if I see it.

I think about how badly we've screwed up this planet on a daily basis, it seriously makes me want to cry.

So for now, ignorance will have to be bliss. I'm not usually like this but I'm trying to prevent a nervous breakdown here.

I suppose as long as you're doing your part against this kind of thing, Matt, you're okay...

In this world, to most, I guess it's all about making money, and lots of it. It's beyond sad to see the video about the farmers in LianJiao, absolutely nothing they could do or else they would simply starve! We recycle every chance we get, but it's never enough it seems.

Global mass consumption... How did we ever get this out of control?! Too tragic for words.

Thanks for this Lola. I also downloaded the film by Annie Leonard. I can't wait to see it.
